We continue to be excited about our Young Kidizens program as a perfect beginning to the Kidizens program. Our unique constructivist framework of city-building, role-playing and social learning enables groups of younger students to take on a guided discovery of real-life concepts. While the overall concept and experiential learning philosophy of Kidizens runs through all problems, our curriculum for the “Young Kidizens,” is designed specifically for the target age group of 6-7 (and young 8’s), with the goal of simplifying many civic and economic concepts and bringing them to life with many play-based elements.
In their first semester the fun, highly collaborative, play-based interactive experience of building an entire city of LEGO begins! The Young Kidizens will explore age-appropriate civic topics and meet lots of special LEGO guests! They will work together to build a city from the ground up, learning about the world around them works and functions. Over the course of the session our students develop important social emotional skills such as cooperation, empathy, conflict resolution, creative problem solving, and more!
18-week session, where children collaboratively build and learn the day-to-day civic and economic concepts of managing a city, and as such develop design thinking, problem solving, social and leadership skills.
Kidizens serve on a city council and may run for an elected position as Mayors, judges, doctors, lawyers, fire chiefs, sheriffs, safety inspectors and in many other roles, while improving self-confidence and developing leadership skills.
The Kidizens also manage city budgets, enact laws, cope with natural disasters and crises.
They also interact with other cities and cooperate on various issues, as they develop problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
Teachers provide historical and local perspectives through lessons on related civic and economic topics and guide students to learn through the consequences of their own actions while encouraging “out of the box” and critical thinking.
Not just LEGO building! The Young Kidizens curriculum utilizes many play-based elements to engage our younger students on their level! Many fun LEGO visitors help deliver news, assign new projects, and more!
Exciting field trips to the local City Hall, Stanford Design School or History Museum, Recology Center, scheduled as per availability, convenience, and community safety.
