At Kidizens, the LEGO cities may be miniature, but the conversations are anything but small. Whether we’re diving into city laws, ethical dilemmas, or futuristic technology debates, one of the most powerful parts of camp happens when kids gather together in civic discussions.

These group discussions aren’t just about sharing ideas—they’re about practicing democracy in action. Every day, campers explore topics like public safety, sustainability, transportation, and the challenges of city leadership. Through thoughtful prompts and real-world dilemmas, they’re encouraged to express their opinions, listen actively, and consider multiple perspectives.

One of the secret superpowers of Kidizens? Our mixed-age classrooms. When 6-year-olds sit side by side with 10-year-olds, something magical happens. Older campers gain confidence by helping younger ones understand complex ideas, while younger kids often surprise us all with their outside-the-box thinking and fearless questions. It’s peer learning at its finest—fostering empathy, leadership, and curiosity all at once.

These discussions lay the foundation for the big decisions campers make throughout the week—whether they’re running for mayor, designing new laws, or negotiating citywide compromises. And while the conversations sometimes get silly (we have debated robot cat taxes), they always circle back to the same core value: civic engagement matters.

So the next time you see a camper proudly raising their hand, know that it’s not just for show. It’s the start of a future leader finding their voice.
