Online Spring/Summer Camps 2

Online City-Building and Young Mayors Camps

Kidizens is our flagship program aimed at students between the ages of 6-12. The online version of the program provides a highly interactive and creative learning environment where students build and inhabit their own imaginary city, and are immersed in a moderator-led virtual city framework. Kids learn about many real-life, city-related topics in the context of a utopian city-building framework, as well as have run role-playing and living in a virtual world. We encourage collaborative and guided discovery of real-world concepts in an age-appropriate manner, while role-playing and ‘living virtually’ in a fun universe. Our goal is to inspire kids to become great citizens and future leaders, one project, one city at a time!

Young Mayors Camps – Age 6-12

Take your creativity and confidence to towering heights at Kidizens’ Young Mayors Online Camps! During an excitement-packed session, kids are immersed in a highly experiential and collaborative process of building, managing and governing their own LEGO cities. The program leverages your child’s love of LEGOs to help them learn important 21st-century skills and leadership strategies, all while having tons of fun creating civilizations from the ground up.

At camp, kids are immersed in a collaborative process of building, problem-solving and role-playing as city council members in a LEGO city that they build together. The kids are divided into groups in order to address various city issues and challenges as they arise during the course of the day. With each new town crisis comes a building challenge, fun game, quiz, or history lesson about how cities typically solve certain issues! Tons of civic fun!

The online camp runs from 10am to 2:30pm with a 15-min snack break at 11:15am and a lunch break from 12:30pm to 1pm.

During the online camps, kids will:

  • Build a brand new virtual city from the ground up
  • Role-play in the Kidizens State
  • Trade and collaborate with other Mayors
  • Create a robust city infrastructure to manage city residents’ basic & growing needs
  • Handle unexpected challenges (natural disasters, crime, resource scarcities, budget crises)
  • Establish laws and justice systems – fun court cases bring many concepts to life
  • Construct amazing LEGO creations from their own imaginations to be incorporated into a virtual city map

While happily LEGO-ing to their heart’s content, kids will sharpen their skills in:

  • Leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Out-of-the-box creative thinking
  • Problem solving in a fast-paced environment
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Public speaking and confidence
  • Online software use and wide exposure to online tools
  • Proficiency in Google suite – docs, sheets, maps, presentations
