In-Person Summer Camp FAQ

2021 Young Mayors In-Person Camp FAQ

Here are a few things we would like to highlight in order to answer a few questions about our in-person camps this year.

Note: Although new CDC guidance suggest the loosening of certain Covid guidelines, we will continue to require that all campers and staff wear masks and social distance at all of our camp locations.

What Covid precautions are being taken this year?

All campers and staff are required to social distance and wear masks at all times during camp. The new CDC guidelines do not change this for the time being. We also provide plenty of hand sanitizer so kids can sanitize their hands throughout the day as needed. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy camp environment for all campers and staff.

Will counselors be vaccinated?

Yes, we will make every effort to ensure that all of our counselors are vaccinated by the time of the camps.

Will the campers be building outdoors at all?

Our in-person camps for 2021 are designed as outdoor/indoor camps as needed. At some of our locations, the campers will spend part of their time (weather permitting) in the outdoor courtyard building in their cities. Whether the Kidizens are inside or outside they will absolutely be socially distanced at least 6 feet.

Will Kidizens be providing snacks this year during snack time?

We will not be providing any snacks or other foods at camp this year so please make sure your child brings an easy to carry lunch to camp.

Will parents be allowed to enter the facility?

Unfortunately, no. In order to ensure the health and safety of our campers and camp staff, we allow only counselors and camp participants for the week to enter the facility.

What is a 2-week camp and how is it different from a 1-week camp?

During the second week of a 2-week camp, the Young Mayors continue to build the city they started in the previous week. Both older (ages 9 to 12) and younger (ages 6 to 8) campers will take on new age-appropriate challenges that dive into a deeper level of civic understanding than could be covered in a single week.
